Autotransfusion Service

This service offers patients the opportunity to donate up to 3 units of their own blood in advance of their surgery.

Patients awaiting major surgery (total hip replacement, spinal fusion, ganz periacetabular osteotomy and total knee replacement), are informed of the self donation possibility and it is their own choice to avail of it or not.

Staff from the Autotransfusion Department will predetermine the amount of, and timing of donation.

Information leaflets are sent to patients on the waiting list, and are available in the Out-Patients Department, Admissions area and the Pre-Assessment Unit of the hospital. Leaflets are also available in the referring hospitals
