Summary of Services Provided

Hardware Support:

  • Operate a helpdesk to resolve issues related to computer hardware, mainly PCs, printers and scanners.

Applications Support:

  • Provide a support function for Microsoft applications and hospital systems such as the hospital Patient Administration System (PAS) and the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Liaise with external software solution providers to ensure the resolution of problems related to their specific solutions. This includes the hospital Laboratory Information System (LIS), the Clinical Audit System, the Accounting and Pay Roll systems and the HR system.
  • Ensure that the Microsoft application and system software is fully patched on all servers and client PCs and that the Anti Virus software is kept up to date.

Operations:

  • Responsible for the hospital network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls and wireless access.
  • Ensure the continuous provision of email and internet access.
  • Manage the web filtering software to block access to inappropriate web content and monitor and report on internet usage.
  • Manage the email filtering software to block spam email and stop viruses.
  • Responsible for overall network security.
  • Ensure that all hospital computer system data and data held on individual PCs is properly backed up and that backups are tested on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that we have a proper and effective Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery  Plan in place.
  • Development, implementation and enforcement of ICT guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that hospital is properly licensed for all the application software in use throughout the hospital.
  • Ensure that all ICT related maintenance and support agreements with external support companies are kept up to date.

Applications Development:

  • Design, development and implementation of amendments to the hospital PAS.
  • Development of new interfaces to the hospital PAS.
  • Maintenance and development of the hospital intranet and hospital website.
  • Design, development and rollout of new ICT projects within the hospital such as the hospital Risk Register and the Joint Register.
