Phlebotomy
The Phlebotomy Department provides a phlebotomy service to both inpatients, out patients and Occupational Health.
Summary of Services Provided
- Venepuncture is the most common procedure carried out to obtain blood samples but phlebotomists are trained in obtaining blood samples from central lines e.g. Hickman and Broviac catheters and peripheral blood cultures.
- Our phlebotomy service comprises approximately two thirds of our workload while the ECG services includes the balance
- Samples are obtained for various blood testing including haematological, biochemical, bacteriological, serology, and samples associated with blood transfusion and other laboratory tests. Blood samples are collected from patients for diagnostic reasons, ongoing disease management or routine tests.
