Summary of Services Provided

  • PhysiotherapyThe Physiotherapy Department provide services to all patients under the care of a Cappagh Hospital consultant.  We assess and treat every patient admitted for surgery or investigations.  After surgery we will provide individual exercise programmes to help your recovery and restore your independence.  On discharge from hospital, we may continue treatment on an out patient basis if appropriate, or refer you to a local physiotherapy service if preferred.
  • We run daily out patient physiotherapy clinics for those patients requiring further physiotherapy on discharge from hospital and for non-surgical patients from out patient clinics in the hospital and other facilities.  Out patients can only be referred by Cappagh Hospital consultants.
  • We assess all patients attending the Pre-Assessment Clinic and offer advice and treatment for people awaiting joint replacement, to ensure they are as fit as possible for their surgery.
  • We are involved in the assessment and treatment of patients attending the weekly Sports Medicine Clinic.
  • We provide a physiotherapy occupational health service and manual handling training and advice to all hospital staff.
  • We accept students on clinical placement from the physiotherapy schools in University College Dublin and Trinity College, Dublin.  We also contribute to the education of medical and nursing students on placement in Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital throughout the year through lectures and placements

Protocols for Physiotherapists:

Protocols have been developed by chartered physiotherapists in Cappagh Hospital to guide our colleagues in the rehabilitation of certain orthopaedic surgical conditions.  They are based on our own experience and practice.  You are welcome to view and download these protocols but you are advised to discuss individual rehabilitation management with the referring doctor or physiotherapist
